Snagged a good one today

Lodge Scent

Beautiful day in the woods today, started out with temps in the 20s but warmed into the 40s. I hadn't found a coin at this homestead site in several years. Easy targets are long gone. I had dug a couple of small broken pewter buttons and a couple of .22 leads and was about to call it quits when I got a choppy mid conductor tone with a VDI bouncing in the 60s. I am thinking it's a button masked by a nail as that is really all I find at that site these days. I pinpointed and dug the nail. Swept the coil over the hole again and got the expected nonferrous signal, but it sounded a bit higher in tone this time. Was very happy to see a bit of silver in the hole !

This Capped Bust dime is my oldest US silver by a few years and appears to be in XF condition. Great way to end a hunt!

Spectacular find! :shocked04:

That is a stunning coin! It has wonderful detail and even some natural toning. Simply gorgeous! Soon to be 200 years old!

:congrats: :perfect10:

WOW! That coin is absolutely amazing! I am so glad you were able to rescue it from the ground and share it with us. I hope to find a cap bust silver some day and this gives me motivation to keep looking! Best wishes and happy digging, Dave.

Thanks Gents. Drew I don't think it was particularly deep. I'd say 4 to 5 inches. The dime was slightly below the nail and to the side an inch or so.

That is by far the best looking coin I've ever seen dug. Looks like it was minted yesterday. Congrats on an amazing find.

Thanks guys. Oddly enough, I've dug 3 Capped Bust silvers over the years and all 3 are lookers. And it just seems to me that a good majority of the ones I have seen posted around the forums are lookers as well ???

Wow Jeff! XF to low grade AU coin - $500-700 on the open market. What a stunner. Congrats.

John

Thanks John. I need to be sure to tell my kids not to throw that one out when I croak!

OR... I would trade you 50 tombac buttons for it!!! Don't say no, just think about it! :coffeelaugh:

Listen FMD...... you can keep your 50 tombacs.....you have at least 50 other relics that I would happily trade you for. ;)

That is stunning! Those are the best finds in my opinion and no matter how long you have been in this hobby, you can still get surprised. Congrats!!!
