1802 and 1806 Draped Bust Large Cents ++

A return trip to detect at a site I had worked once last year proved to be a good decision. Though I had originally planned to split my time between two sites, I ended up spending the entire day at the first location.

After several hours of detecting, the lack of wheat cents and silver coins suggested that the site had been cherry-picked over the years. I kept on gridding though, recalling the few Indian Head cents I had picked up the one time I had been there. I worked the area as best as I could from several directions, and it paid off very well. :happydance01:

These were my best finds, two Draped Bust large cents, dated 1802 and 1806. The 1806 is a low mintage, with just 348,000 minted.

I can't make out much of anything on this copper. The reverse is completely devoid of details.

This 1864 2-Cent piece is a bit worn, but it still looks great. It is my 9th 2-Cent piece this year.

The only silver I managed to dig - a 1901 Barber dime with a hole, and a Roosevelt dime. The third coin is a Civil War token. It held up very well. I picked up a second one of a different variety, but it is in bad shape.

Also among the finds were six Indian Head cents, dated 1863, 1864, 1865, 1879, 1887, and 1898. Here they are with the tokens.

And these are the rest of the finds.

I had been concentrating on finding Indian Head cents, but I certainly was not going to ignore those deep signals that scream 'dig me'. lol

The coin conditioner I use is called Coin Care. It works great on coins that have mostly loose surface soil. Coins with encrusted soil do need some other method to loosen the dirt, but after that the coin conditioner will clean up the rest.

So far this year I have found 11 Draped Bust large cents, matching last year's total. It was sweet seeing that 1806 pop out of the ground. :smitten:

The Barber dime was the victim of a crime. :crying02: Why would anyone want to do such a thing? lol

Awesome hunt! Great variety of finds and cool coins, way to stick with it at that site!

It was a fun hunt, even if arduous. lol

You are a great coin and relic hunter. Your finds are always top notch. Congrats on the Draped Cents. Way to go Angel!! Look at all your finds. Sweet Digging, and Happy Hunting!!

What a hunt! I think I need to see this gridding technique in action... I've always just employed the drunken wander. When I'm really feeling disciplined I'll work in straight lines back and forth but I have never repeated the same area in a perpendicular direction. Perhaps I'd better start! That key is great and it looks like you got a broken piece of a silver ring in there too. And what can I say about the coins... Congrats!

You are too kind Tim. :embarrassed: Thank you for the encouraging words. I had hoped for a bit more detail to show on the 1806 Draped bust, but I really can't complain.

Nicely done, what's that owl looking thing?

It's part of a silver ring. I checked to see if the rest of it was in the hole or nearby, but that was the only piece I could find. :girlcry:

Nothing wrong at all with meandering. lol I do it most of the time. rofl I do tend to employ a grid when there is the possibility of finding a few stragglers at a worked-out site, or when seeking deep targets. Below is a an example of the type of grid I employ. Working a grid can be boring, especially when one does not hit on anything for an hour or more, but the excitement returns when an old coin pops out of the ground. lol

Angel, your hunts continue to blow me away. :shocked04: :clapping:
I know I've said it before, but the items you continuously find at hunted parks never seem to end and impress me.
Your results from parks are what has encouraged me to stick with them this year.

Love all the coins here. :smitten: Showing the before and after pictures is a real treat.
My favorites are the 2 Cent piece, the 1802 and especially the CW token. :smitten:
And of course the IH's... I love to find them as well.

Incredible bunch of finds.

Again I have to say it, great hunting. If I am wrong please tell me but is your IH total up to 155 for the year? Two more LC's for the pile, and I'm sure that pile is huge. Love your posts.

Thanks Joe. The CW token was a treat to find. I especially like how well it held up. The rest of the coins were exciting to find too of course. lol

So far my Indian Head cent count this year is at 157, and my copper count is at 48. Thanks Al. :beerbuddy:

I'm with the Sheik....a loss for words...as I have run out of things to say about all of your amazing finds that leave my jaw on the floor, speachless and drooling

<: I didn't even have to look at who posted this one, just looked at the great finds and knew it was Angel. Love the LCs, we don't have them much down this far south, a friend found one up near Vicksburg, but that is as close as they come. Congrats Angel, you are the best.
