A Few Hunts In The Fields

We have been getting some break in the weather warming a bit but a lot of rain so I have been able to get out for a bit to do a bit of digging. Finds have slowed down a bit as the fields have been hit quite often. This was a puzzler at first until I was told it was a “flapper” that went inside the reins guide it is to keep the reins from slipping. I first thought it was a pendant of some kind.

Some typical field finds

Nice little suspender clip with patent date Oct. 14 “79

Only coin for this hunt was an 1890 Indian Head.

The next hunt was at a field that we always find a lot of marbles at as well as interesting relics and a coin or two.

Next hunt was at a field that has given up many Large Cents, Two Cent Piece Fatty Indian and lots of relics. I got a deep 12-36 signal and thought it might be an Indian but at 8” and on edge it was a 1910 Wheat Back, but I will take a “Century” coin any day.

This hunt gave up several nice flat buttons and a gilt small flower button.

You folks have been busy! Some really nice non-metal finds too. I'm still waiting for my first marble. Never saw a "flapper" before that wasn't associated with the Charleston. :) We'll be joining you soon Tony, as it is 45 degrees right now and there is fog coming off the snow. :daydream: Congrats on a pile of keepers!

Some really cool buttons that you dug there, the flower button is especially nice! I always found the toe taps intersting, still haven't found one yet. Quick question, the shell under the ring, is that a shell that was cut for buttons?

The shell looks like Mother of Pearl or perhaps Abalone, we found several large pieces of it as well and I went back yesterday I found more pieces.

You got some really interesting relics there, Tony! I had never heard of a rein flapper either, but that's definitely what it is, as we can see by the photo that Lodge Cent posted above. I learn something new on this forum every day!

I really like the suspender clip and the marbles too, as well as that floral button.

I can't wait to see what other wonderful items you and Diane find this year! :thumbsup02:

:congrats:
