A Few Sunday Hunt Keepers

It was a very rainy Saturday so detecting was out of the question, but today I did get out to one of the parks that has yielded nice keepers on past hunts. The only silver was a 1911 Barber dime, but it is in fairly nice condition. :smitten:

I also found two large cents, the first a Draped Bust. I haven't remove the soil from the obverse, so I don't yet know the date. :thinkingabout:

The second copper, a 1838 Matron Head, has some good details on her.

This Infantry button still has thread attached.

The rest of the finds - four Indian Head cents and fifteen wheat cents.

HH!

That is a great hunt right there sir. Silver, IH's and a Large Cent, plus a nice pile 'o wheats. <:
The button is very cool. Cool because the thread is still there. :shocked04: Love stuff like that. :smitten:
Congrats Angel... looks like you had a nice day out there.

:perfect10: A 'Perfect 10' indeed! :perfect10: Great finds!

Just out of curiosity, what does your trash pile look like on a day like today? Which item seems to fool you the most regularly?

While that may be a SO-SO DAY for you I would still say that was a GREAT hunt! Very cool to still have the thread on that button. thumbsup01

I love the barber :smitten: :loveit: but those coppers are very nice as well. :clapping: You seem to be a copper magnet this year  I can't believe how many you are pulling out of the parks! :shocked04:

Love the button too :happydance01: Congratulations... there is more there!

Thanks everyone! :beerbuddy:

nice! that 1838 is gonna be a beauty i can see that already! congrats.do a after shot of the large cents please!

The 1838 large cent is in decent condition, even with the corrosion. I can't complain given that most coppers I have dug at parks come out in awful shape. The Draped Bust large cent appears to be dated 1800. :thinkingabout: Not one of the better Draped Bust I've dug, but she is still a keeper. :smitten:

Fortunately I still had yesterday's trash in the pouch. lol I dug no iron during the hunt, though that's not to say I don't get fooled on occasion. Digging some iron while using Conductive Tones is part of the package though.

The most troublesome trash for me tends to be aluminum screw caps, though that is mostly while detecting sites where trash is heavily concentrated. In general I dig very little trash, though the amount I dig does increase when I am working sites where there is a greater potential for old coins, buttons, and such. You just never know when a gold coin may show up.

Yeah, so far this year I have found 21 large coppers at parks. :shocked04:stretcher: I just wish most were in better shape. :crying02:

I feel very sorry for you, that them pesky coppers have to get in your way when going for the deep silver  So Dan and I have agreed to send you a self addressed, stamped envelope for you to rid yourself of them. lol Your welcome  As for the rest of that day's hunt :shocked04: great mix of some very nice items. A very good day indeed. :clapping:

rofl rofl Yeah, they sure are pesky. I mean, here I'm digging deep for a Bust silver coin and I get a copper. :thinkingabout: But the copper coins have found a home nonetheless. :smitten: Thanks George! thumbsup01

Man that is another awesome hunt! What is a large copper? Must be Yankee money... :dontknow:

I could just say large cents, but that would then give the impression that they are all U.S. large cents, when in fact there are British coppers, Canadian Coppers, U.S. Half cents. :thinkingabout: So I use the term 'large coppers' as a capture-all phrase, and to differentiate them from 'small coppers' - Indian Head cents, etc. lol Yes, I have had to differentiate between both in past posts. 8/ ;)

Angel spilled the beans, but we can tell you only if you don't tell anyone else lol It's a generic term for any large cent, colonial or british half penny, penny, or token and is almost as big as a half dollar.
