A Productive Saturday Hunt with Tony Two-Cent & Noah

We met up yesterday morning to do a bit of door knocking In an old central Illinois town. Let me start out by saying it was great to get together with Tony again, it's been such a strange year!!
We hit a few houses, but most of my finds came from one 1870s yard. It had obviously been hit before, but they left us all a few goodies.

This one put a BIG smile on my face!

Any ideas on it's age?


The Illinois & St. Louis RR was in existence 1865-1889


I found 3 - 5 cent tokens from this bakery a couple of years ago in the same town



On the way home, Noah and I stopped in one more town and i finally found a few coins.

It was great getting out with you and Tim, Don! That one yard was a day saver. Lots of great finds came out of that soil. Your eagle button is gorgeous! We thought it would clean up well and we weren't wrong. Beautiful!

That railroad baggage tag is a great find too. What a wonderful piece of history. Railroad relics are very collectible.

I am curious about that flower button. Your photos don't really show how big it is. Could it be Tombac material? I'm not sure.

Crazy that you've found three of those bread tokens now!

there were very few coins and no silver. someone got the easy stuff and left us the non coin signals. ok with me, we dug some nice relics out of that yard. ( Tony dug the only old coins there )

I've been trying to find a match to your eagle button without much success. The backmark says "W.H. HORSTMANN & SONS - PHI".

I cannot find that exact button though.

Great finds Don! I am SO JEALOUS of that button! :envious: I showed a pic to my friend who is a Civil War nut and he said it was an (Infantry) officer's button. Glad to see you making the killer finds but leave some for me! Happy digging.
