A shilling surprise

Hi All

I'm new to this site and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Mike. (I'm the Mike C. in Bob E's post about the silver half cache). It's nice to meet everybody and to read all of the great stories and finds.

I thought I would post this particular coin find as it was a real surprise to me. It was one of the first hunts with my new E-Trac. I was up in Mass detecting an old ball field. After finding a few deep wheats, I got a good signal at about 4 inches. I pulled out a silver coin, but didn't recognize it. I knew it was foreign and was dated 1896.

That night, after looking it up on the net I realized I had a King George IV sterling silver shilling. And the date was actually 1826!!

If definately was not what I was expecting to find.

HH all. Mike[attachimg=1][attachimg=2]
