Hey all,
Got out today about an hour away from home and found a park that abutted up to the local historical settlement. The park was also part of the old farm, so I had hopes.
Just past the area they filled to level a sports field I dropped my coil and on one of my first swings I hit a 12-34 signal at 6 inches. Found a big glob of green goo with an IH in the middle. Pretty cruddy and can't get a date off it, but hoping that was a good sign as it was my only IH this year.
Not long after I got a sketchy high tone at 8 inches, mixed with iron. Took the chance and dug it up. Dang, a big nail. But checked again with the pointer and got a signal off to the side. Dig a bit and saw shiny! Scored a really nice 1940 walking half!
After another hour or so I found nothing, so went driving to find another site. I luckily got a permission at an 1870 church by the historical society president who was there doing maintenance work. But here's where it gets "interesting". I got hollared at by the neighbor who turns out thought I was someone else. Apparently some guy was coming there without permission and detecting the cemetery itself, and on the neighbors property. I was told this guy was a real A-hole and was disrespectful of the property owner and grounds. Luckily after talking about bit we got good detecting relations going, and she even stopped by later to see if I found anything. But nope, nothing but part of a harmonica reed.
Anyway, I'm sick of people like that, and them being the reason detectorists get a bad rep.
Thanks for reading, and happy hunting!
