Another good relic hunt

Had some good days at The Pequot hunts this week Doing a Village site (hamlet). Found a lot of things I did not take pictures of but did get some shots of some of the finds. My pictures lately have been of the "Rob quality" so bear with me :lol: Got a nice .63 cal ball, a 36ish cal, and a 45is ball which I thought was half of a bar shot. It is the longest sprue I have ever seen on a musket ball. Also found a nice pet but left him in the hole I found him in. But today's find made my day. First hole of the day and I get another brass kettle point!:happy:

Sweet Kettle Point! Nice wildlife photo too...bucking for a job at Nat Geo Wild? :lolsign:

That picture reminded me of a girl I went to school with....Sally Mander....she too was sleek and slinky! :cool:

We have found some buck and ball stuck together, but this one is either a long sprue that was made that way intentionally, or possibly some bar shot missing the other ball. I go back to the fields that the other points were found at this Tuesday. I'm using a GPX and that machine is a monster :shocked04: Nothing escapes it. Shot gun shells at 9 and 10" is so far the record for that size object for me.
 
How thick are those kettle pints George? Could you bend it with your hands?...is it thick like a coin? Glad you are getting some time in...are you going to trade all your detectors and your car for a GPX?:lol: Nice find!

The points are both thick and thin :dontknow:.....:lol: Some are thin and do bend quite easily. The read like tin foil or a .22 cal slug. They are from the smaller kettles. That point and the point that I found before that one are thicker, just shy of a worn copper in thickness and read like a wheat penny. They do not bend and were from larger, more robust kettles.

As for getting a GPX, no problem I just sold one of your kidneys, so I should have my new machine in a couple of weeks. Once you recover I will buy you lunch :cheesysmile:

Hey Skamaniac, a kettle point is a Native American arrow point made from breaking up brass kettles sold to them by the Dutch. They replaced the stone points that were being knapped for thousands of years. Then the Musket replaced the brass points.

Thanks for the info! No wonder I've never heard the term. That would be a very narrow trading span in the Northwest.
 
Very cool! I would love to find a kettle point some day. Glad you put the salamander back in its hole. It's a big one even for a Spotted salamander. Now those CT boys would have thought it was a monster and hacked it to death with their digging tools :lol:

The salamander photo is cool! It's pretty big too! I don't think we have spotted salamanders around here. :thinkingabout:
