Back To The Relic Field

Monday gave us a break in the weather with the temperature reaching 45 degrees and even though I knew it would be muddy I just had to get out and give it a go. I went back to the last field I hunted which gave up some good relics and this time it was more of the same, with only one lonely wheat cent to account for all the coinage! I dug this “Dr Drake’s” cough syrup lucky piece it originally had a wheat cent in it and was supposed to bring the bearer luck. I have a similar one I picked up at a flea market so I was familiar with it.

The next good find was this fairly decent Eagle Button for the CW era.

I then dug this token, in the field I had no clue what it was, it was holed and bent and when I got home I cleaned it and straighten it out and I saw that I had dug my very first Coal Scrip. Not knowing much about such scrip I sent pictures to a friend that collects them and has reference material on scrip. He got back to me and told me it was a very scarce item listed in his reference book as an R-10 rarity! Which is the highest rarity rating they use!

Other stuff is typical field finds, the ubiquitous toe plate, bent spoon and other sundry items.

It`s nice to see that you can still get out there. I got slammed with 30in of snow, so that`s all that I`ve been digging.

Wow Tony! It's great that you're hunting! That looks like a really high pitched harmonica reed....tiny. Nice haul!

so glad to see you still getting out this far into winter Tony , congrats on the very cool token and Drakes lucky token piece .
