Breakin' into the 1800s in a BIG Way!

Went out hunting with a buddy to a place that had produced a Merc in the past but really not much more. On the way there, he was giving me a hard time about not having broke into the 1800s yet. It's true, at the time my earliest coin was a 1906 Barber quarter.

The hunting was really tough and we didn't have any coins between us for the first 4 hours (maybe more) that we were there. After a while we broke off and went our separate ways. My way required a bit if bushwackin' but I'm pretty happy I pushed through the brush because about an hour later I had my first 1800s coin: an 1870-s Seated Half!!

I am still shaking from it and for about half-hour after I found it I was kinda detecting in aimless circles because I couldn't keep my mind off that coin.

Anyway, thanks for looking!

:clapping: That is the best way to break into the 1800's  I bet your buddy was quiet as a mouse on the way home:shocked01: I remember finding my one and only Seated Half and I could not concentrate either:happy: Congrats on a great coin!!!

Fantastic score on the ole seated half :thumbsup02: that's definitely a very nice way of breaking in the 1800's with a seated half like that

Nice! :clapping:
I know that feeling. My first 1800's silver was a Seated half too! :groovy:
Mine was a 1876s.
Awesome find!
Congrats!

What an incredible find!!! :notworthy:

I would be on cloud nine for a month if I ever found something like that!

I would be going back to that site and hitting that area hard.

Congrats on the spectacular find! :perfect10:

Thank you all for your comments!

Tony: honestly, I think we hit it as hard as we could without much luck (beyond the half) but who knows maybe we'll go back and try it again. Definitely still on cloud 9, though. I'll definitely be going back with my fishing pole though as there were some very nice sized largemouth bass being caught in a lake near there. In fact, before I found the coin, I was regretting not going there to fish instead.

Coinnut & Aloldstuff: if you knew him you'd know he's never quiet, but he was loudly supportive and congratulatory after I found it. Haha.

Congrats on the find. I always wonder at places whether it's been hit hard or there just happens to be no coins, after getting no hits (other that a few iron) in an hour or two. When out with people, just know who is following who. Dan has mentioned to me about places others forget to check.
