Hi all,
I know it's been a long while since I've had anything to post. Working crazy hours and such means little time to hunt. But sudden unemployment recently gave me an opportunity to get out for a bit.
I found an old cemetery with stones dating back to the early 1800s-rare in my region. Didn't find much, but got one clear signal, a 12-37 @ 7 inches. I found a larger than nickel size round disc with lots of crud. Initial wiping only revealed what looked like a shield sign and my first thought was wow, my first shield nickel! But why did it ring up so high? Another coin in the hole? Checked twice, but no more coins. Ran it over the coil and got a clear 12-38. WTH? Further picking and cleaning revealed I had my first 2 cent piece from 1867!
I also found a 1914 Barber dime ( not shown), and locket, and something I've never seen before. On one side it has an engraving of a sailing ship, and the other side is flat with a hole in the center with a pin protruding from it. There are 2 spring loaded buttons on the side. It's about nickel sized in diameter and about 3/16 in. thick. Around the hole in the back is a date stamp of Pat. May 11 1880. It also seems to be made of gold or is gold plated. ID help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Edit: fixed date and text of "pat."
