Carved Button

Since I don't have any sites to hunt yet I have been going through some older finds and wanted to share this one.
I found this button about 20 years ago in the Hagerstown, Md. area. I have seen carved bullets and even have a few crude ones but this is the only carved button I know of.
It looks like a soldier may have had some idle time while in camp and decided to remove the eagle from a coat button.
It would have been nice to find the eagle

weird! wonder why someone would do that? wouldn't that be an unpatriotic thing for a soldier to do? ya sure it just didn't corrode off being that the eagle was the high part of the button? :thinkingabout:
those gem containers are nice for buttons,I have a bunch of them

Yours looks to be better cut than mine. How long did it take you? :peace:

very cool an unique button , i imagine the down time in between the battles took its toll on every man and one had to find something to occupy his time . its a very interesting piece and a great conversation piece . |:cheering: thanks for showing it .
