Coin ID help (if it is a coin)

I found this a few years back at a site that has given up some colonial coins including English, German and Portuguese coins. Its the size of an English halfpenny but very thin. I don't see any evidence of a shank, so I don't think it is a button.



I see what appears to be a "O" and an ""N", leading me to believe it might say "ONE" ? There is also what looks like a very thin "X" connecting the "O" and "N".



This one has been bugging me for a while Any and all guesses are appreciated.

It kinda looks like the O and the N are on slightly different angles...which makes me think that they were counter stamped. If that is the case then there maybe no way to tell what that old coin was. I bet it is a coin though. Interesting for sure.

I agree Bucknut , to me it looks like a counter stamp but the question would be is it an advertising stamp or a silversmith's stamp to authenticate the value of the very worn coin . Jeff are you sure its an O and not a C or G ??

there are a few silversmiths with those initials .

I'm with Del. A counter-stamped largie but I see NC (upside down in the pic)

I think you guys are onto something. It could very well be "NC" or "NG" counter stamp. I'm thinking it might be a state copper or a British halfpenny. It really is noticeably smaller than a large cent.

I love a good mystery. My first thought when I saw the top pix was counter stamp also.
