Coppers From The "Mystery" Field!

Diane and I went back to the “Mystery Field” as I call it since none of the maps show a structure being on this site. Last Saturday we found eight coins and the newest was 1880! Doug had said he wondered why we had not found any Large Cents…well we took care of that on this hunt. The first coin I found was this very toasted N/D Matron Head.

At about the same moment Diane said she just dug an IndianHead, it turned out to be a crusty 1864

My second find was this blackened Two Cent Piece, it took a bit of looking at it to determine what it was at first, a reading of 12-41 on my CTX led me to believe it was and only after squinting and turning it on angles was I able to confirm that it was a Two Cent Piece. To me it has the appearance of having been in a fire.

Despite warming temps the 20 mph winds made it quite chilly so we were nearly ready to go. Diane had told me she dug another Indian and I told her we would look at it in the car. When checking it I told her she made a very nice find and when she found out it was not an Indian but in fact her very first CW Store Card she had a wide smile on her face!

Just before leaving I got a very nice 12-45 signal and I popped out this 1853 Large Cent!

We got some interesting relics also.

This Benedict & Burnham Button was a good find as well; it dates between1835-1843.

Diane and I both got one of these pieces of a pocket knife made by the American Knife Co. ca. 1850’s.

Wow Tony!! Very productive hunt....and in the dead of winter!! Nice lookin video as well. Congrats to you folks!!

Congrats, awesome hunt! Well done finding that field. Kind of wonder about that axe head, looks like someone chopped rebar with it! Lol

No more mystery left to that field. It is a proven winner ! Very cool token!

Boy, they loved poking holes in coins out there didn't they :)

You know Tony, you guys never cease to amaze me. You even find coins where they shouldn't be.
Congrats on all the great finds.

Way to go Tony! The button and the Civil War token are great finds and will surely find a conspicuous spot in your collection I presume.
