Detecting an old path in the woods

Hey Diggers,
I got out today for a few hours of detecting. We went to a nearby town that still has their 12th century castle on the hilltop. We went about a mile away to a large hill that has several old trails through the woods heading towards the castle. Pickings were slim but I got a really great buckle next to the old path. It might be one of the best buckles I have ever found. A little research online and I found a positive ID! It's a shoe buckle and the type is "loop chape with single spike and tongue." The source says the single spike dates to between 1690 and 1720! There was a neat 1775 survey marker along the path too! I wish I had more to show you but I just didn't find very much today. Thanks for looking and happy hunting, Dave.

WOW! The survey marker is pretty cool. That buckle is awesome.

Is there something stamped on the bottom of the chape?

Holy cow! That buckle is really cool! I can't believe how nice that came out of the ground. :shocked03:
Once in a great while we can find them that old around here but not in that condition!!! The only one I found that old did have a maker's mark, so maybe you could see who made it! :congrats:

Wow , great find ! I don't know if I could survive without my quotas of pulltabs , slaws ,zincs , foil and other assorted crap .I'd be willing to bet you will find a gold coin or object before I find my next Mercury dime .Heck you may even find a Merc before I do . Keep up the good work .

It's not much in terms of quantity but it's defiantly a quality find. :thumbsup01:
Way older than anything we're finding here in Illinois. :envious:
Nice find Dave!
Congrats

That is a gorgeous buckle, Dave! And super old as well! By our standards here in the USA at least. :wow:

That is a showcase piece for sure. I can't wait to see what all you find over the next three years. Amazing!

:congrats:
