FINALLY got out today... 1 Wheat + 1 Buffalo + Clad

Although it was sunny and 48 degrees here today, our ground is still partially snow covered, and the soil is still frozen hard as concrete. However, I just couldn't take it any more, I had to get out for a hunt!

But boy, I sure could have used pulltabsteve's hammer and chisel. :lol:

Here were the conditions at the park today. In the distance you can see some areas where the grass is showing. That's where I detected. I must be nuts! :crazy:

My first find for 2014 was a 1938 wheat cent, but it took me about 10 minutes to chisel down to it with my Lesche. It was about 5" deep.

I had to ignore the deeper signals because there was just no way to get down to them. I had to concentrate on signals that were about 5" deep or less, and even then it was really slow going. Even when I was able to chip my way down a few inches, the hole would immediately fill up with water.

But you know what? I had fun anyway! It was just so nice to get out in the sunshine and swing my E-Trac!

Other than some clad, I also ended up finding a Buffalo Nickel at about 5" deep. It is really worn, but I think the date on it is 1916.

I took an SOS pad to the wheat cent and buffalo nickel.

The finds aren't too exciting but I was happy to finally get out! :beerbuddy:

Takes a while of looking at it, but I think you are correct.

Good for you, I'm happy to see that you were able to get out and relieve your MD withdrawal . The ground here is still to frozen to even chisel, although we're finally above freezing. :clapping:

Well its good to see you get out there tony. Ive never used a chisel yet but once i was at a location where a house once stood and i used one of the old bricks to hammer my digger into the ground:lolsign:. I hope to see you getting out more i look forward to seeing the finds

WTG Tony. In an earlier post you had mentioned that you might get out this weekend. As hard as the ground was, you still managed to get some keepers. :congrats:and lets all hope for good temperatures and grass that we can see.

great finds! I have yet to find me a buffalo! It looks horrible out there haha! I live in NM and it was 70 today. Ill be out hunting tomorrow and wishing you more sun!
