First Silver and it isn't a coin!!

I picked this up at the park today and didn't think much of it - and I ALMOST tossed it in the trash pile without cleaning it. WHEW :omg:

Turns out it is from the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. Its stamped 1892 because the expo was delayed for almost a full year. It has no markings that say it is silver but it is documented in a book called American Silver Thimbles

It is not the coin I've been hunting for but I am super excited <: :happydance01:
Too bad about the crease that was in it - I suspect it was hit by a mower or something sometime in the past. It was 4 deep about 2ft from the trunk of an old tree. I also got about 30 pulltabs and 5 bottle caps but they weren't as interesting lol

I think you are right - I did go rinse off the rest of the dirt tho and I love it just like it is :) Now I have to figure out how to display it :)

:perfect10: Great Find! I found a ring at the park. Thinking it was junk metal. Because it was so dark. I got it home, and started cleaning it. Long story short. My wife dipped it in tarnex. :shocked03: Silver! Victorian I think. I think some of the older silver will darken. Congrats on the Cool looking thimble |:cheering:

NICE find. I love the world's fair and expo collectables! I checked ebay and there are NONE for sale. I did find one on another site just like yours listed for $185!

Thank you all so much, I love being a part of this community

$185 is a nice price but I don't think it is going anywhere as long as my wife doesn't find out what its worth rofl

very nice! i have been waiting to dig a silver thimble..heck any thinble will do! As Angie said..better than a coin any day! :clapping:

:happydance01: :happydance01: :happydance01: Congrats on that beautiful thimble!!! I've found 2 aluminum ones, am still hopeful for a silver one someday. Both of mine I found under huge shady trees where I imagined women mending and chatting (without distraction of I-phones or hearing a television blaring in the distance) lol

When you do find it don't do what I did... I was smacking the thimble against my digger to get the dirt out of the inside of it. If I had only known rofl

Tana there are lots of big old trees in this park so I have some ground to cover - maybe they were having a sewing convention :daydream:
I bet you would do really well here because the ground is really soft and I am starting to think that most things are out of the reach of my F2. Not enough to stop me from going, but I will have to go back when I can upgrade to mid range MD :)
