Hey guys, been quite some time since l posted here.Just wondering if any of the software issues have been fixed, or if the issues are still going on.

I heard from Angie today and she has been working on fixing the forum. I think it may be fixed now? (Knock on wood!)

Please try some test posts and let me know if there are still issues.

THANK YOU, ANGIE!

Hi everyone, and my apologies for being MIA for so long! Health care issues have had me out of commission for quite awhile, but I am more than ready to get back into life and metal detecting!

I really appreciate everyone who has stayed around in spite of the forum issues. I thank all of you, more than you know, and most especially Tony and the rest of the staff. We will get this moving on the right track. My son Christopher has been invaluable in getting things running again here as well. He's a busy guy -- he is a computer engineer with Reddit and does a lot of traveling -- but he has always managed to cut some time free to help here -- thank you Chris!

On that note, I will say that the issues with the photo attachments seem to have been resolved. However, there are other issues, particularly on the back end of things, that I am finding. This is going to require a forum software ugrade from our current vbulletin version 4.2.2. to version 6, which should solve many of these issues. The problem is that edits/patches/fixes for the version we are currently running are either hard-to-find or no longer exist at all. Before Chris ends up re-writing the entire software  this upgrade needs to happen sooner rather than later. We will keep any disruption to a complete minimum, and the upgrade should go quickly and smoothly (famous last words! :hystericallaugh:)

My goals are to keep the forum as uncomplicated as possible and to provide a place where we can continue to talk about detecting, share our finds, and form strong, invaluable friendships. There are some organizational updates that I plan to implement on the front of the forum to assist in accomplishing that. Another goal is that I want to have the finds banner active again with continuous updates so we can show our treasures as part of this hobby (in a noncompetitive way).

I am always open to any and all ideas that others have! I'll keep you posted, and thank you for your continued loyalty to AD!

Thank you, Angie! This forum means a lot to many people. I am so grateful that is still exists. It is wonderful that you have a vision to improve it and keep it going. Here's to 2025 and beyond for AD!

:thumbsup02:

Thanks for the update Angie! Glad you're feeling so much better.

Do you have an idea when the fixes will be all done? I love this place and enjoy seeing what other CT hunters are finding, as well as all of the other finds out of state.

Hey guys! We have been looking into the vbulletin 6.0 upgrade closely and tested things to make sure everything is ready to upgrade. So far it's a thumbs up. I'm going to start testing the new updated forum offline to make sure everything is looking good, and we should be up and running for real in the next few days! I'll keep you posted.

Chris is moving the forum to a new (dedicated) server as well.

That's great, Angie! Thanks for the update. It's nice to hear that the forum will be continuing in a positive direction. :thumbsup01:

Thanks for your patience everyone! I've decided to go with Xenforo versus vbulletin for the software upgrade, for several reasons, but mainly because it seems to be well-liked and better supported by most people. I've spent some time playing around with a test copy, and I like it. It will also come with a photo gallery that members can use. Of note, the banner will continue to be used. I'm doing the software download tomorrow (on a test site at first) and from there it should be a relatively straightforward transition. I know. famous last words...

Thanks for the update, Angie! We are fortunate to have someone who is savvy about all of this software stuff. Your expertise on such matters has been sorely missed.

We just migrated over, after dealing with some minor issues (thanks to Chris they were quickly resolved!). As we go forward I will be working to improve the front-end appearance of the forum and reorganize/update some of the sub-forum structure and content. For now, we are prioritizing functionality, so please let me know if you run into any issues!

As we move forward, I also would love to hear input/thoughts on front-end (organizational, content) improvements. It has been awhile since any of this has been updated.

The good news is that the banner is up and should be functioning, so we will be working to update that with new finds that are posted!

Thank you for your patience and support -- it is very much appreciated.

Angie
