Found this coin last spring while hunting a spot with Pulltabsteve. Steve was talking to some passer-by that was asking questions about metal detecting and I come running over screaming I found the 77. I bet that guy bought a machine later that day. Just found out it won me coin find of the year at my local metal detecing club.

congrats Don, I just looked it up in the red book it looks like a 1,100 to 1,500 dollar coin :happydance01: :happydance01: :clapping:

Very cool!!! thumbsup01 Congrats on winning the contest- what's the prize? IH's are one of my favorites. 1864 of the L variety is the most valuable coin I've ever found...

Would love to find a '77. I always remember rubbing the date and seeing that first 7 appear. Then :shocked04: ahhhhhh :ticked:   usually a 8 or 9 appears next rofl Nice coin!! :clapping:

Did you clean it yourself Don or send it out?I remember seeing it at the club meet before it was cleaned.
Thats a long story lol. quickly.....sent it to ncs for conservation and they did nothing to it thinking they would do more harm then good, but then they sent it to ngc for grading and they sent it back ungraded because it was too dirty. so i cleaned it myself and are planning to send it out again for a details grade at least. the whole process took 6 months for nothing so I wouldn't recommend sending a dirty copper coin out to ncs.
