Had a Button Kind of Day!!

Digger Don

New member
We were out yesterday door knocking farmhouses when one of the farmers told us about a site in one of his fields that had a cabin on it in the 1830s. He had us follow him about a mile to the spot and told us to have at it.
Although the corn stalks were about a foot tall, we managed to detect there about three hours. From the first 5 minutes after getting there until the time we left, we steadily kept pulling out flat buttons. I dug an eagle button that still had silver on it that i'm 99% sure is an 1820s militia button. ( any opinions would be appreciated )

He is discing the field this week and we have permission to go back anytime. Noah had a nice total as well. we dug 15 between us!!

Great hunt Don! Old flat buttons like those mean there are old coppers and silvers there too. That eagle button is a nice find! Cool dog tag also.

A little diluted CLR and water will clean the button nicely , these buttons have a nice layer of heavy silver plating . Its a beautiful button Don 1815 to 1825 would be the date i would give it .keep hitting that field as the remnants of that cabin could be scattered over an acre or more now , im sure there were coins and more buttons
