Actually, if I read the stamp right, it's "pat April 20 1875". I've scoured the patent listings for that date and I did find one for a necktie and badge holder. Drawing and descriptions are vague, but it's the only buckle looking item patented on that date.
I don't think there were any patents issued on April 29, 1875. They were issued on the 20th, 27th and May 3rd according to the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office).DOD, I think it might be 29 Apr 1875. The tail of the 9 is very short though.
I am just curious if anyone read the link I posted in response #5? The style of the buckle in it is fancier but the design is the same. Here is the link again so you don't have to go back and look for it.
