Large Town Common Silver + Silver Dimes

Lately I have been detecting a local town common late afternoons for a couple of hours or so each time, and so far the common has yielded silver on every hunt. Not much in quantity, but the coins have been old. Today I hit the common again for a couple of hours, and this time I walked away with four silver coins, the best one a 1906-S Barber half. :happydance01: The rest were dimes, dated 1903, 1935, and 1941-D.

The rest of the stuff, which include a sterling silver pin, an 1891 Indian Head cent, and several old wheat cents.

Nice finds Angel. Did the half ring up as a half or was it masked by iron? Wikipedia has a nice little article about Hamilton Standard Propellers in East Hartford Conn.

There were several shallower targets around it, though not sufficient to cause too much masking if one were sweeping the coil slowly enough. A fast sweep may have missed it though. The coin was at about 8 1/2 inches, and the signal, while strong, had a small footprint.

I'll look up the info on Hamilton Standard in Wikipedia. Thanks! :thumbsup01:

I like the pin too... But I like the barber half more :cheesysmile: Awesome find. I can't believe it was still there after all those decades of that place being heavily detected.

Maybe because it was a small footprint, but still.

It is a beautiful coin. It can't ever get old to find those. Very nice silver dimes too. Hard to believe that was a two-hour hunt.

Still waiting for my first barber half Angel. If you will please leave one in the ground for someone else. :lol:

It is according to all the locals I have talked to about it.:lol: There was even a detecting club near the common at one time. In truth though, the finds are few and far between. I just happened to hit on a good patch and gridded it.

That name is from an huge aerospace company based in Winsor Locks, Connecticut, now called Hamilton Sundstrand.
