A 1790 coin of Louis XVI


An intriguing object. Not yet IDed. But the design looks pretty old to me !



Missing in those pics is a super worn 17th century double tournois.

Congrats! Very nice coin, looks like it could clean up well! The mystery piece also looks like it could be a part of a cut coin maybe?

The coin cleaned up pretty well but has this terrible reddish color now.

Ah, I had gotten that from the IH I found earlier this year. At this point you either may want to leave it alone, or finish stripping it to bare copper and retarnish it to get a nice patina. You could also try a lye dip first which may uncover a good patina under the red color. I have actually had luck with lye based oven cleaner.

Great finds for your last hunt. The flat item looks like a thimble. if it has a seam that would be a possibility. WD
