Last hunt of the year, a first for me.

Well I think my season is finally done. We are experiencing a winter storm as I type this and this time I do not think it will melt until spring. Last week the temps were up in the mid thirties and cold weather was predicted for the coming week. So I put aside a day for one last hunt and I figured I would head to my favorite spot, the old grove. I was using the CTX with the 17" coil in combined mode (my new favorite set-up). I came across a target that was hitting iron with a hint of a nickel signal after opening the hole an finding a rusty square nail I was now getting a nice 12-13 at 5 inches. I could not believe what I was looking at when I got it out of the hole, my first Shield nickel an 1868 in nice shape. I also found my 45th silver of the year a 1924 Mercury, an 1867 Indian, 4 wheats and a women's pocket watch. It was a good way to end the year and can't wait for next season.

Nice finds. That Shield nickel is in great shape!! Add to that a semi-key Indian , plus silver and jewelry :shocked04: Great way to end the year! Even the Merc was an earlier date.

Wow! Without a doubt that is the nicest looking shield nickel I've ever seen dug! They are usually really toasted.

Very nice semi-key Indian Head too!

And to top it off you got some silver!

Man thats some nice stuff. It really stinks when winter rolls in and puts an end to the fun. Oh well looks like we will just have to wait for spring!
