Magnetic rock.

I found this last summer with my water detector, it was hitting in the gold range and it's very magnetic. . I should have it tested cause I know someone who works for an archaeologist and they also told me if you ever think you've found a meteorite, bring it to me and I'll get it tested free. I had stuffed this away and forgot all about it and found it going through some stuff and tried the magnet on it.

Has anyone here ever found a meteorite?

I think y'all are probably right cause after I did this post this morning I looked up meteorites and one of the first things they said that if it looks like it's got quartz crystals in it then it probably isn't. It does look like quartz crystals too, they also said that there are meteorites that have quartz in them but its a real rarity.

I'm afraid it doesn't look like a meteorite. However, for less than $20 there is a 99.99% foolproof test. Go on-line and Google nickel test kit. You might find one in a large, well-stocked pharmacy, but can buy them on line cheap.

You'll have to file off a small edge of the crust to run the simple test.

Nickel is not common in earth rocks, but almost all meteorites have nickel and will test positive.

I've found five (confirmed) this past year and all passed this simple home test.

Hope this helps.

I read a lot of rocks can be magnetic, but most of them have to have some form of iron in them, either naturally occuring iron rich rocks or by collection in sedimentary rocks. I have a couple that I kept that rang out on my Eagle Spectrum, many years ago.

I took geology in college and got a 'D' :shocked04:stretcher: which is wierd because I love rocks with a passion lol
