Got out after a lite rain was surprised to get a slamming signal in an area I’ve been over 1,000 times, out popped this military medal after a cleaning I was excited when the text started to pop through, it reads
No 5460
Edward E Kern
1st enlistment
1911-1915

I reached out to some local historians hoping to return this to his family if I can!!

That's a very cool medal! I've never seen one like it. How very nice that it's still intact with the gun and everything. I hope you are able to track down the family.

Congrats on the awesome piece of history!

WOW! Amazing relic. Please keep us posted on your efforts to track down the family. Let's hope he survived WWI and maybe can be found on the 1920 census records! The Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal was established in 1896 and awarded for 4 years of honorable service.

Great find! I guess since it says "!st" he must have reenlisted? We weren't in the war yet though. It'sin super shape too! Congrats on a nice piece of history. Good luck with your return!

Thank you all for the replies, Nothing like seeing silver or finding a nice old coin BUT military history is my passion ( Army 1/75 Ranger ) I always feel more of a connection. I am actively trying to locate any family, I know I would Appreciate if someone contacted me and said I have this item that belonged to your grandfather or great grandfather, a item I’m sure he was proud to have received!
