Met Up with Tony Two-Cent

Ill Digger

After some quick planning Tony and I were able to agree on a place to meet Saturday. We met up at a 1800's fair grounds.
Me arriving a little late didn't deter Tony! \:hammer: lol When I arrived Tony was already out swinging. thumbsup01 lol Tony started it all off. First getting into some wheaties and a short while later Tony walked up and said I thought we would find out together what this is. As he holds out a chunk of dirt with a silver rim sticking out of the side! :shocked04: :happydance01: Sweet! It turned out to be a Merc :happydance01: I was starting to think of another place to go  and now we knew the place wasn't 'hunted out after all ! <:
I ended up finding a silver Merc of my own. :happydance01: I also found a 1868 IH and a Chinese cash coin along with a few wheaties.
Here's the keepers

It's kinda hard to make out. But I think the IH is a 1868  lol

It was good to meet up with ya Tony! thumbsup01
I'd hunt with you anytime

Thanks for lookin' & HH everyone!! :groovy:

Like I told you at the time, Tim, I would trade everything I found that day for your 1868 Indian Head! I've never found one that old. Great find! To my eye there's no doubt that it's 1868, and it may be worn but at least it isn't toasted! Your Merc is way nicer than the ones I found too. All of mine have this gray tarnish on them that doesn't come off.

After you left I found the two additional Mercs and the 1896 Indian Head in the same general area where I found the first Merc, within 50 feet of that small tree. At first I thought one of my wheaties was a 1914-D, but the mint mark came off when I cleaned it. Turns out it was just a speck of dirt. crying01

Thanks again for inviting me to hunt that site with you! I think it has much more potential. Let me know if you ever want to meet there again, it would be my pleasure!

Great finds Tim, congrats on finding a nice site and sharing with a fellow AD detectorist!
