More finds from southern Illinois

Nothing too spectacular this time, but it was better than nothing. Oh well, we can't find capped bust silver and key date Indian Heads every time. :dontknow: :lol:

But mercy, WAS IT EVER HOT! :whiteflag:

Actual temperature of 96 and heat index of 110+. I probably would have stayed in the air conditioning, but my brother twisted my arm. Once again he had obtained permission at 3 private residences. They had received over 4 inches of rain down there in the past week and the ground was actually soggy and muddy. Very unusual for this time of year.

The first two sites didn't produce much, so we actually ended up hunting my aunt's yard. The vast majority of these finds came from her yard.

Here are the keeper coins for the day:




I found two of these trade tokens in my aunt's yard as well. We figured out that they are from Keith's Store in nearby Rinard, Illinois.





Here are some of the relics I found:



One 14K gold filled ring, and a nice sterling silver ring:



I will definitely be returning to my aunt's yard when it cools off some. I'm sure there's more there, we only hit the front yard, and that not very thoroughly.

What is the art deco looking thing just below the thimble?

It has a flat loop on the back of it, like maybe it was used as a bolo tie or maybe a scarf slider clasp? (Kind of like those Boy Scout neckerchief slides.)

Truth be told, my brother didn't have to twist very hard. :lol: We took 8 bottles of water in a cooler, but we went through that quickly. The heat doesn't usually get to me, but I must admit it did this time.

And I noticed the conspicuous absence of Indian Heads. Not only that, but I didn't find any last weekend either when I was hunting with Digger Don.

Great job Tony, I'm glad you got back down with your brother for a hunt. You got a very nice variety of finds. The Silver is always nice, but the rings and tokens make it that much better. Congrats. I predict a whole tribe for you on your next hunt. :detecting:

I don't have the slightest idea. It appears to be brass, has the word "Fargo" on it and some numbers and letters. Holes in each end.

"Charles Hare Keith started the store, he was born Aug. 10, 1844, died Aug. 7, 1941. From my research the store first opened between 1885 and 1900. In later years the store was ran by Timothy Keith until it closed for good in 1970."

That's pretty neat Tony! The guy was 97 years old! He would have seen the Civil War, invention of airplanes, cars and the Great Depression! What a life he would have lived.
