My cannonball and early/trade axe finds

I can never get around to cleaning them so figured I'd put them on the display I had ready to go for a while to see if it would give me the motivation to finally get them done. They look far better there than in a box in storage where they have been for years.

Will decide on the cleaning when I do it but I would think electrolysis and wax. Some friends of mine have used chemical but I've done some electrolysis in the past and think I prefer it. All the small ones are from old sites and would think the large are canister shot and the small maybe grape. I've never really looked into them much.

The back row in the middle is French and probably dates about 1730. The Right and left in the back row are from a site we call the Militia site. This was a site settled by a Rev War soldier and my friend actually found one of his buttons... and that day we dug 16 early military buttons between us which is by far our record as I think 5 was the most before and that was just me out alone. I also dug one of the balls and the larger frag of one in the front row. The 5 smaller ones were all from early sites, all dating to at least the Rev War period, and 3 sites having finds dating back to French.

You never know. My best is a marked French ball that was taken from a fort to what was just an early home site. I know this through researching the settlers, plus it was somewhere you would never have a large cannon... small creek that at the time was in the middle of nowhere.
