need help identifying this brass "SPUR"

found this in an old barn years ago when i was a teen, any info would be great has an inscription on the inside rim cant make out what it says.

Seems like it's too big and bulky to be a daily use spur. Maybe it's just the camera angle but it looks way bigger (wider) than a boot. The script writing looks late 1800s. Try doing a pencil rubbing of the letters on some paper and that might make it easier to read.

any ideas on the style, I have looked al over the net but dont see any like this one. it measures about 3 1/2 inches across the strap end.

Too funny, I get it now. The camera angle makes it look about 10 inches across! (compared to your hand) LOL. I thought that's way to big for someone to wear. Any luck with the writing?
