Today I decided to try a new site that is about an hour away from my house. It is a fairly large park that is between the grade school and high school in a town I've never hunted before. I had driven past this site earlier in the year, but I didn't stop to hunt it because there were too many people there. Today I had it all to myself the entire time. :thumbsup02:
Things started out pretty slow at this park. I found a few modern coins and a couple of wheaties but that was it for the first hour. Then I found a decent 1892 Indian Head and that inspired me to slow down and concentrate even harder. The wheat cents started showing up with more regularity, and I also found two more Indian Heads. Unfortunately, the wheat cents are really toasted at this park, and one of the Indian Heads is really crusty too.
Then I got a 12-45 signal on the E-Trac at about 5 deep. It kind of sounded like silver but I wasn't sure if it was deep enough. After I got the plug opened up and some dirt scooped out I saw a silver dime at the bottom of the hole. I was expecting a Rosie but it ended up being a really nice 1898-O Barber Dime! I was so glad to get one from the 1800s. I have found 37 Barber Dimes this year but only 6 of them have been from the 1800s.
Here are today's finds:

And the keepers:

Three Indian Heads today: 1892, 1906 and a really crusty 1907:

I was very happy to get silver from the 1800s. A relatively uncommon date and it's in halfway decent shape too:

Hopefully the weather will continue to hold out. My brother has a mid-1800s farm site lined up for me to hunt when I go to southern Illinois for Christmas. :crossfingers:
Thanks for looking and happy hunting! :beerbuddy:
