Quick evening hunt yields a nice find

Had about 2 hours this evening to hit a cellar hole I've been to before. This is in a large and heavily accessed public wooded park (~ 600 acres) complete with a 60 acre lake. I've located 7 cellar holes in the park and an old school site and found a few decent things here and there over the past year but I assume most of them have been hunted before as my finds have been rather limited. The site this evening is a bit more out of the way and about 1/2 mi. up a side trail out of the park. Mostly found junk but did manage this fairly decent 2 cent piece and some sort of rectangular lock plate looking thingy. It's pure iron but does have writing on it so I may task my MD club friend to do some electrolysis on it if he has time. Date is barely visible on the coin, but looks like an 1868 under the magnifying glass. Gonna soak it overnight and see if I can pull more detail out. Thanks for looking.

Congrats on the nice looking Two Cent Piece! It doesn't look too corroded so I bet you'll be able to get a date off of it.

Great find! :thumbsup02:

:congrats:

Congrats on your 2 cent piece. :thumbsup01: It does look like it will clean up decently and give you a clearer date. I love finding them, although I always think they are half cents when they first come out of the ground

Those two centers are so hard to find. I have a friend who has found 3 of them but they were mostly toasted. Hope the triangle piece turns out to be Civil War related. Kudos on some nice finds.
