Been looking for 12 years for one of these, a Anglo Saxon Penny of Eadgar AD 959 - 972, Edgar the Peaceful, or Edgar was King of Northumbria,i n 963 he reputedly killed his rival in love, Earl Æthelwald, near present-day Longparish, Hampshire.
Though Edgar was not a particularly peaceable man, his reign was a peaceful one, Edgar died on 8 July 975 at Winchester.

Del...the five pence is 11mm, the Saxon pennies were struck on 20mm flans, as you can see mine has edge damage, so is rufly 18mm.

My goodness... what an incredible find. :shocked04: :clapping:
It was waiting quite a long time for you to come along and rescue it.
A big congrats to you. :beerbuddy:
