Shell midden gives up some goodies

I needed a good hike after sitting on my butt all week. Hiked out to one of my old sites. Didn't expect much if any action but in about 30 minutes I managed a big dandy, a big pewter spoon and a fancy little cuff button.

At the edge of the site was an exposed shell midden. I had pulled a couple of buttons from it a few years ago. Well it had plenty more buttons to give up.

I managed another 7 buttons a little pewter spoon

The dandy cleaned up nice.

Also dug an odd two-piece button with a open spiral design.

It's not easy digging in the midden. Some day I'll get back there with a pick.

very nice finds Jeff , did the shell midden have a lot of iron around it ? Just where was it in relation to the cellar site ?

Dan the midden was no more than 20 feet behind the cellar which is located at the back edge of the site. I was thinking to myself that it must have been pretty ripe in the summer. Yes, there was a good bit of iron tossed in there as well.
