Staten Island detecting opportunity?

I don't know if anyone is from around the Staten Island area or goes there to detect, but apparently the lake in Silver Lake Park is draining out for unknown reasons. But the side effect is that the lake bottom is being exposed. This could be a great opportunity for some adventurous detectorist(s) to have access to an area that has been under water since the lake was filled as a reservoir in 1917.

Story is here: http://nypost.com/2015/12/20/submerged-secrets-are-revealed-as-silver-lake-dries-up/

Yow, the stuff you could find disposed of in that pond could be incredible. Early Dutch, English, Rev War, Mafia.

Wish I lived there to detect that lake! One of the most productive spots I ever detected was a lake that had to be drained for about 2 months I order to fix a dam...found 37 silver coins and over 20 silver rings and a couple gold items too.

Couple years ago (2008) in Wisconsin Dells they had an earthen dam break which emptied a huge lake. If I had been into detecting then I would have been there in a heartbeat! It's a huge tourist area with tons of activity on that lake. I can only imagine what could have been found there!
