Sterling Cross

On Thursday I returned to a old church site that I had previously hunted. This site was the site of my best silver day, which was 11. I wanted to see if the new Detech coil could produce a few more keepers. I managed to find 5 deep wheats 7 plus inches and this very nice Sterling cross. The cross was about 8 inches and came in at 12-44. I thought it was going to be a worn silver dime.

I like the sterling cross! :angelic:

Very nice Religious medal Jeff. What you have there is known as a 4 Way Medal

Here is a little information on what those symbols mean...

Four Way medals are crafted to venerate the 4 great pillars of the Roman Catholic Church.

The top of all Four Way medals hold the Sacred Image of Our Lord Jesus Christ. The left hand side of the medal has the image of St. Joseph. The base of the piece is a small Miraculous Medal, with the image of the Blessed Virgin Mother. The right hand side has the image of St. Christopher the Christbearer, carrying the Baby Jesus across the river.

This has probably been blessed by a Priest. I have found many nice Catholic medals over the years. I am not Catholic, but just the same I keep them in a place of honor, and treat them with respect.

Great hunt! Thanks for sharing.

Nice silver cross Jeff! |:cheering: I think old churches are very special place to hunt...

Thanks for the info Jack!

Thanks for the info Jack. I am a practicing Catholic and treat the grounds and religious finds with the utmost respect. My wife is on our parish council and both my children attend our Catholic school. I thought I knew most everything about the Catholic religion but you just taught me something new.
