Strap end, but...

Ill Digger

Moderator
I believe that I found my first strap end! It was pretty cruddy when I found it. I started to clean it up when I seen it had teeth inside

After a few CLR baths I seen it has a crest or coat of arms stamped on it!!

It has the name Hamilton stamped above it. And if you look real close you can see some gold gilting in the stamped part. I've tried Googling it and can't seem to find and references to it. I found it at the same site I found my 1875CC Seated dime and 1876S Seated quarter earlier this year. Does anyone recognize this seal?

That's a really cool find Tim. I Googled Hamilton Coat of Arms and got several similar variations. Although it is a Scottish name I suspect they Americanized it a bit by substituting stars for flowers on the shield.

Thanks Dave. I seen these in my searches but the lack of stars is what made me think it wasn't the correct one. I didn't realize that they might alter their crest. But adding stars in place of ..... whatever those are. Makes sense to me.

Looks like its right at the one inch mark Dan. Maybe a 1/8 or 1/16 over. What do ya think?

Tim this piece would definitely go on the end of a leather strap or thin belt
