Hello,

** I saw the bent buckle by the brothers in nY, and believe I can help. I too found a buckle with eagle cannons, rifle bayonets and *mine differs with a 20 small stars up top making a big star above the eagle. I thought it to be from the war of 1812... but found out it was a militia belt buckle from 1820. The back hardware is simple and different from yours. The eagle is ever so slightly different from mine. My recovered piece was on a hill and was in very *very good condition. I had an expert evaluate it and price it at 600-800 dollar rangefile:///private/var/tmp/folders.501/TemporaryItems/com.apple.mail.drag/Unknown-13.jpegfile:///private/var/tmp/folders.501/TemporaryItems/com.apple.mail.drag-T0x40b2c0.tmp.ED9zGF/Unknown.jpeg

there are many variations of the early eagle militia type buckles , they are also the most common but are still my favorite design .

these will date from about 1815 to almost 1840
