congrats on the artillery button , its a bit hard to determine which variety it is though.
 
thanks ,it is hard to tell on that one its amazing how much the ground changes here from site to site. some of it is sugar sand and in other places its a clay like mixture and I hate to see the clay because its rougher on the relics.

Yes the sand has better drainage while the clay will hold the moisture and coins and relics tend to suffer considerably while consistently sitting in water.
 
Congrats to your friend on the nice snag. You must be in on the fall line where the sand and clay are intermixed. Used to live south of Raleigh (Fuquay) and saw the same ground changes just on my 3 acres. HH!
