Went on the war path with the Indians

Hit a couple of spots over the weekend and came up with a different kind of assortment. I ended up with 5 war nickels. I've found war nickels before, but this just seemed a bit unusual to come up like this. One came from a school yard and the others came from a heavily pounded park. The Indians, large cent and the earlier mercs and 1883 V nickel came from the same park. The other 2 mercs and 1911 V nickel came from the school yard. Also pulled a 1943 steel cent. Haven't dug one of these in years. When I first started detecting 35 years ago you would occasionally dig one that still had some detail. Nowadays it seems you only get a steel disk.

Wonderful assortment of old coins, Don! You sure did clean up on the war nickels. It is unusual to find so many.

I am curious about whether the 1883 V Nickel is the "No Cents" variety or the scarcer "Cents" version.

Your 1943 steel cent looks just like mine, just a blob of rust. They definitely don't hold up well in the ground.

Congrats on the nice finds! :clapping:

In 2013 I found 43 Silver nickels. The year before and this year I found 6 & 7. It is strange how some areas and parks have a lot of nickels and others very few. Nice haul of silver and copper. WD

Nice haul of silver dimes and nickels Don. Interesting point on the steel pennies. Never new about their lack of longevity in Mother Earth.

Great assortment of coins. I think that is the most war nickels I have seen posted. You got yourself some fantastic finds for 2014 and hope that 2015 brings you more of the same.
