Anyone know how this tack buckle was used and dates? I find them periodically. Thanks!

It is a buckle cover off of a horse harness, originally patented in 1879.

Hey Camp, I literally have that same buckle :lol:
You and Tony inspired me to look at my pile of buckles...I spent an hour sorting them. I'm going to post them in another thread.
