Whatzit Buckle...1911 V Nickle, '17,'24 wheats

Got out today and dug lots of targets. Does anyone remember it being 71 degrees on Feb 24 in the middle of New England? :shocked05: There is still snow in the shade but lots of digging area now. The buckle looks to be a sash buckle because the pin is through the long way and it looks like a pressed, light duty item...but it has a tongue and chape. Anybody know what this was used for? Thanks!!

Nice buckle Drew it appears to be a colonial or late "Georgian" type sash buckle with clover motif designs , Its been absolutely beautiful the last few days . Congrats !

Very cool buckle Drew. Can't say I ever saw a sash type buckle with a chape. I was in Dallas this past week. It was 89 degrees on Wednesday. I was wishing I was back home with snow on the ground .

I can't remember the website Drew, but there was this guy who unbent relics like yours using blocks of wood. He did it very slowly but it was amazing what he could unbend without breaking it.

Interesting, Drew. Did the chape bend with the whole buckle? I'd def agree with sash buckle, and prob would agree with Dan on time frame. It's almost at the Victorian design change over.

Saturday was nice weather for hunting. At RI, where Jim F showed up for a short guest appearance, it was almost perfect. But it got a bit cooler around noon when the wind picked up. Yesterday, the ground was incredible for digging. Just ridonkulous wind, tho. We actually got a mile drive into the forest and saw a tree blocking the road, knocked down by the wind. I contemplated trying to cut off the tip and see if it could be moved enough to squeeze by, but we just went the long way around on a different road.

Nice Drew! Perhaps some gentle care can straighten that buckle out for you. The V-nickle doesn't have much value but is also a nice snag. If you don't mind a little rough treatment take some brillo to it and it will get rid of that crud. HH!
