Big Copper Day!

Monday was a beautiful but windy day here in Ohio, but just perfect for doing some field hunting. Our first stop was back to a field that we hunted on Saturday when Diane smoked all of us by finding two Large Cents.

It was still tough to get in between the corn stalks but again Diane showed how to do it, her first find and a coin that has been on her wish list for awhile was a nice 1864 Two Cent Piece. She followed that up with her second 1851 Large Cent from this field. My sole good finds were a flat button and a broken skeleton key. After taking a break and unsuccessfully trying to find another site in an adjoining field we moved on to check on the farmer’s progress on cutting crops. We were happy to see a bean field on one of my permissions had been cut. We found the house site with no problem and less than five minutes I had my first find an 1895 Indian. A bit later I got a great signal and out popped a nice 1851 Large Cent. It was not longer after that when Diane called out and said she had a Large Cent! I got a signal and brushed the bean stubble away and lying on top of the ground was a 1911 Wheat cent. We continued to hunt with buttons the main finds including a beautiful Benedict & Burnham gilt button that Diane found. I got a garter clip, and what I think is a collar type button. Diane worked her way over closer to me and said that I was too far away for her to get my attention but that she had dug another Large Cent! She is on a fantastic roll with five Large Cents and a Two Cent piece in three days! Her Large Cents are 1838, 1850 and 1851.

Just kidding, you got some very good finds too. Nice coins, relics, and I like the porcelain marble too.
