I don't know about you guys but it seems like ketchup really does the job! What do you guys use?

Yep, it's stripped of even the patina because of the acid (vinegar). These are better and safer ways to clean copper. The acid eats the copper under the corrosion, which allows the corrosion to come off.
 
Yes as Chris said , the acid in the ketchup has stripped the patina off the coin . In time , although I don't know how long the coin will darken up some . how long did you have it in the ketchup ?

Not long maybe a few minutes, this is the worst of the coins that came out.

Does a nice job on them. I would only do it for your common date ones and ones that are really bad. I don't do much with mine as a little dirt on them makes a nice contrast and I really like the ones that come out of the ground really green
