This is not my normal type of detecting. I much prefer fields or woods but with the drought and low level of this fresh water lake I decided to try this rocky sandy beach area. It paid off with a sterling silver spoon bowl, a Walker (my 4th) and an 1853/arrows seated quarter (my 3rd). I don't...
Got into some Colonial last weekend and finally found something worth posting! Unearthed a 1723 Woods Hibernia and a complete spectacle buckle from a farm field permission. I've included the "in situ" pics for those of you who like that kind of stuff.
Multiple hunts and locations shown here. Dug my first complete Colonial shoe buckle since getting the Nox 800. Rang up as a 26. It swiveled flawlessly right out of the ground! Also found a nice knee buckle in a different location. The coins are New England copper mystery discs....thin and 1/2...
Sometimes it pays to take a closer at your finds! I found this small silver plated item earlier in the summer but had never bothered to clean it until today. I almost tossed it! A light brushing revealed the name "J. G. Coolidge" and under it "No. Andover" which is the town in Mass where I found...
Hit a new field today and dug my first Woods Hibernia. It's a 1723 farthing and the flaking has started. I had never found one of those heart heal plates and today I dug two! What a beautiful New England spring morning. Hope everyone had a chance to get out!
After almost 10 years with the SE Pro I got a great deal on a Nox 800 and picked it up yesterday. I'm sure it will be a big learning curve but I'm so excited. Still trying to get my head around the concept of wireless headphones (see what I did there?), no AA batteries, charging with a USB...
I'm a New England woods and fields Colonial relic hunter but find myself as a fish out of water literrally...in Florida for the next week. I've actually never detected on a beach. I have my Minelab SE Pro with me and will dust off my Andy Sabisch book, but any help appreciated on settings for...
Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on possible value of this stamp collection of 1940's era First Day Issue and First Day Covers. Dates range from 1944 to 1949 and stamps are mostly 1c to 6c stamps. Have not counted them all but there are probably somewhere between 150 and 200 of them. If...
My 6th year of detecting was really a mixed bag. Despite detecting almost every weekend, my totals for silver coins and coppers were WAY off from previous years. Yet, on the bright side I managed to find two of my greatest "bucket list" coin finds ever...an 1821 Capped Bust Dime (my first...
Found this 1943 steel penny in the coinstar earlier today. Wondered if this meant good luck or a bad omen for the Pats against the Steelers tonight. Well the win wasn't pretty, but just like this coinstar find...I'll take it!
Getting caught up on posts for some of my other finds from the summer and fall. Found my first silver pocket watch...can't believe how heavy it is! It says "coin silver" on the inside and I think the case is Elgin, but I still need to officially ID and date it. One of my other favorite...
