I found this recently at an old farm field. The parts were in different holes a few inches apart and I was lucky enough to find them all. It struck me as odd that a heart shaped 1943 Australia coin was in NJ. I did some Googling and I found other heart shaped 1943 coins from Australia that were...
Spent a few hours hunting this morning. Coins, Large Cent (Coronet/undateable), Indian (undateable), Wheat (1916). Got a couple of cool buttons, any one have any info on the Eagle with the anchor? I think it's a Naval officer's button from the 1820's-1830's. Also, a couple of oddities.
My normal MD buddies all seem to be going to a Civil War reenactment this weekend. I would welcome the opportunity to hunt with forum members. I don't mind driving a few hours if anyone is planning a long hunt this Saturday (4/29) or Sunday (4/30). I'll treat for breakfast and/or lunch :)...
Spent some time today digging my new permission with a few buddies. The day was so-so, dug an 1821 Reale...but it was chopped in half (do I get to mark it off bucket list?), dug an Indian...but can't get a date, dug a large cent (I think) but it's so roasted I doubt I'll ever know what it is...
I thought I had another KG II Hibernia when I first dug this yesterday, but it does not line up like my other one. It's not a harp, looks like a shield. Any ideas?
* update * - I think it's a NJ Copper http://www.coinfacts.com/colonial_coins/new_jersey_coppers/new_jersey_coppers.htm
I was out early today with my buddy Chuck, not much to speak of for the first 3 hours. Then he finds an 1853 Seated Quarter....I'm so jealous lol! Then 5 feet away I hit a clean target and pull this from the plug. I don't have much experience with buttons, so I ask "hey Chuck, what's this big...
Had a great hunt today with a buddy. Lots of diversity, a musket ball, 5 buttons, a wheatie, two Indians (1879 and 1903), an undatable King George II, a 1911 Barber Dime and a 1833 Liberty Cap Half Dime! So happy to check the half dime off the bucket list!
I'm more of a coinshooter, but....I love this button I dug yesterday. Seems to be a 1800s militia button.

Had a good hunt today, 4 Indians (1876, 1900, 1901, unknown), 3 wheaties (1914, 1916, 1920), 1891 Liberty V Nickel, 1918 Mercury, 1956 Rosie, 3 buttons and 1 round ball.
About a 2.5 hour hunt. 1837 large cent which looks like it was used for target practice, 1919 wheat, a musket ball, 2 buttons and I'm not sure what the other thing is yet.
My last day off on my 5 day detecting vacation. Spent 8 hours detecting with a buddy today. Dug my first seated dime (1855), an 1880 Indian, a bunch of wheaties (11), a few clad, a few buttons and a musket ball. It was a good day.
5 hour hunt in an old park that I thought would have been hammered by other detectorists. 57 coins in all - 6 quarters, 10 dimes, 6 nickels, 35 pennies / 3 were wheats (1944, 1956, 1957).
These are most of the coin targets I had today as marked with my CTX 3030. I'm a little bummed I didn't...
Hey all, I have off work tomorrow, Friday and Monday. I would love to hunt some old fields or farms with members here. Anyone hunting near Philadelphia? I don't mind driving an hour or two to hang out and have some fun. Lunch on me too! Send me a message and I'll reply.
My keepers from today's hunt, using the CTX 3030 for the first time. A Flying Eagle penny (unknown date), a Wheat penny (unknown date), 2 buttons and what I think is a 69 cal musket ball??
Not the greatest day finds wise, but it was 65 degrees and beautiful, so nice to hunt in warm weather! My...
Thanks! I took a VDI reading of all my test coins and came up with this program for the old farm fields I hit. It's basically focused on coins. From the videos I've watched and the sites I've been to, the Seawater option seems to give people better performance. Anyone else find that to be the...
After a 12 hour lemon juice soak, still can't really make anything out. Electrolysis next.
52 on the Deus on 11.7
50-52 on the AT Pro
12.12 on CTX 3030
This matches nickel ranges for me on all of the machines but it's way too small to be a III cent (nickel).
The Three Cent Nickel test coin...
Does this look familiar to anyone? I started cleaning this coin (?) using electrolysis tonight. It's really thin and matches the size of a III cent piece...but it's ringing up different.
