    Mourning Button

I initially thought I had a GW chicken hawk! But reality set in pretty quickly. It's just a funerary urn. This site has given up nothing later than KGIIs, so I am pretty sure it was abandoned well before Washington's death. But still, I am happy with the find. :) Jeff

Big rack, cloak clasp, buttons, whizzer

Last couple of hunts: That ancient pocket knife has a wooden handle. Whizzer has 4 holes like a button.....maybe it is a button ?? Nice little cloak clasp and one loop. Came across the remains of a big buck. No doubt shot but not recovered. Coyotes left just skin and gristle. Big 8 pointer...

    Detecting during an Earthquake

Got out to one of my old colonial sites Sunday morning to do a little detecting. The only excitement for the hunt was an earthquake. I heard this loud low rumbling noise and thought it was a squadron of jet fighters from the base on Cape Cod coming towards me. After no jets appeared I thought...

    XP Backpack

I picked up the XP backpack to replace my 30 year old Kelty pack. I have to agree with the reviews I've read about it. It is a very well made and well designed pack. It's got some nice features and plenty of room and compartments for all my gear. And I carry a lot of gear when out in the woods...

    Buttons and Pewter

Nice to get out in the woods and do some detecting over the last couple of weekends. We had out first snow Friday. But it melted away on Saturday. Even though the skies were crystal blue, I got wet from the snow melting from the tree tops. It sounded like rain falling. Found a handful of...

    King George III

It was too nice not to get for a while on Sunday morning. Hiked out to one of my favorite spots to swing the coil for a couple of hours. It's been at least a couple of years since this site gave up any coppers or even buttons so I was surprised when I actually got a nonferrous signal. It was the...

Not a bucket lister but a first for me

Never found one of these before. Looked up the model and they were made between 2016 and 2019 and sold new for about $340. I pulled the SD card to see if it would show where it took off from but can't get it to read. Fairly recent crash I think. I was at this same site a couple of months ago and...

    Best finds ever!

Our first grandkids. Cam and Corinne decided to make their appearance 7 weeks early and in the middle of a pandemic ! But we won't hold that against them. :) The 2 little peanuts are still in the hospital but doing well. Of course we can't visit. :( Jeff

    Hibernia, bunch of buttons

Hibernia (1723) and 1 button from last week. 19 buttons and 1 thimble today. Different sites. Hibernia is toasted but it does have 2 counterstamps "ES". Last week left. This week right. The button site has given up a ton of buttons (80+) over the years but only 3 coppers. Not the best ratio.

    Couple thimbles, couple buttons etc.

Went back to one of the sites I that I was clearing out some of the iron. Managed to sniff out 2 thimbles, a small parasol hub, watch chain thingy etc. Now I could detect for 2 more life times and not find the quantity or quality of shoe buckles that Dan has found. But today I found the...

Moving some iron out of the way

Poking around a couple of my nearby sites. One is a mid 1700's site and the other a mid 1800's site. Decided to dig up some of the iron and get it out of the way. Managed to put together a colonial era table setting ;)

    5 buttons from same hole

It would have been nice if they were 5 GW's but the funny thing was they are just 5 random buttons. I've dug multiple buttons from the same hole before but they are usually all the same types. I know I've put my coil over these buttons before and ignored the signal. There was a big crusty nail...

3 holes = 2 shoe buckles and an odd find.

Hiked out to a site I hadn't been to in some time. The plan was to try and sniff out a goody or two from the iron. The only problem was that I forgot that this one one of those old cellar holes that had hardly any iron. After 45 minutes of nothing but an occasional iron blip, I decide to just...

    Ramrod

Spent a couple of hours at my "peace and quiet" site. It's very small but it is right up against a swamp and there is no trail leading into it. I get skunked as often as not but I did manage a button and a brass ramrod tip today. When I got home I remembered I had found the barrels of a...

    Iron Shoe Buckle

Got out for a couple hours Sunday. Managed an iron shoe buckle and some odds and ends. Dan I know you have at least couple dozen iron shoe buckles to go along with your 400 brass shoe buckles, but this is a first for me. :envious: Were these iron buckles towards the end of the shoe buckle era...

    Little buttons

Hiked to one of my favorite spots. Just a very small colonial homestead. No stone foundation, just a slight indent in the ground where they built their tiny log cabin. Nothing spectacular found at this site, just a nice little place where I can detect in peace. I used my "Cuff Button Killer"...

    Eagle Button and coin purse

It had been several years since I last found a Civil War uniform button, but I found 2 this month. Looks to be a general service button. No back mark. I got excited when I dug the remains of a coin purse, but no coins to be found. Jeff

Fatty, buttons and one of the oddest things I've found

Went back to the mid 1800's site just 5 minutes from my house. Tried some different settings and sniffed some finds from the blanket of iron. Got a dateless fatty and misc. other stuff. The anchor button is civilian. I dug this ship's wheel looking thingy. I was surprised when I turned it...

    MA Militia button

Last weekend and today I managed to get out for a couple of short hour and a half hunts. Last weekend the rain got me, this week had to get stuff ready for a family cookout. I dug typical mid 1800's relics. To the right of the forks are todays finds. Was happy to pull this 1860's...
