I have been only posting my very best finds, here is my latest. I found a man's gold wedding band with a 1730/1 date on it. I have found other wedding bands, but never with a date. I thought it was old when I saw the small skull etched on it. ( the style said old) I was pleasantly surprised to see 1730. Thanks for looking, Dan

Inner ring reads 16 march, 1730/1 AE+ 48 20 II maker's mark (A.Tyler)

:omg: holy mackerel :shocked04: :shocked04:stretcher: Dan thats no wedding band :shocked04: :shocked04: :shocked04: its a mourning ring . back in colonial days when a loved one died in the family the closest to that person wore a mourning ring or locket or brooch for a year maybe two or more . its an incredible and very personal find my friend and could of been for a very prominant person or family . do your research on the family and individual on the ring Dan , and if you choose to sell that item collectors will pay lots for a valuable and rare piece. wow great find again and mega congrats |) |).

hey Dan , A.Tyler could be a silversmith by the name of
Andrew Tyler
Born: bef 29 Jan 1692, Boston MA

DEL, Wow! You know, I kinda thought there was more to it than just a wedding band. I thought it odd that there would be a skull on a wedding band. I first thought it belonged to a sailor or soldier who was bored. I can honestly say that I have never heard of a mourning ring.
thanks so much for the info. I will try to find out more about it and keep y'all posted......

hey Dan can you post a picture of the makers mark it might confirm the one i posted .

Hey Dan. as we have discussd ion the past, my cam is poor at macro shots. Here is the best I could do. Dan

Dan it does look like Andrew Tyler's latest makers mark , he was a very influential man and i believe he was appointed as a selectman of Boston when he made this ring , you need to find out who the ring was for as it was probably someone very wealthy and had held some sort of stature or power in the comunity.

heres a link with a little on Andrew Tyler it shows two makers marks yours looks like the alternate one on the right.

An absolutely stunning find. |) |) |) It is a mourning ring as Del stated and they can commend a pretty penny. A friend of mine found one and was basically tricked into selling it at a very low price at a famous auction house. Do not sell it!!!!! They are usually commissioned by a very prominent silver/goldsmith and went to high up political, business or religious leaders. Truely a great piece. Congratulations :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

Wow!!!!! :shocked04: :shocked04: :shocked01: :shocked04:stretcher:

Dan... this is spectacular!! <:
Finding a gold ring is enough cause for celebration, but this one is a true beauty.

Please keep us updated if you find out more about it.

Dan
It may be a wedding ring, but the english were very big on death rings at that time. I would bet my oldest child that you have one of them there. Phil
