AREA-51 had some time to get out this eve and hunt for a while at a site that he lost his root saw. We get to the site a little after 7 pm tonight I turn on my detector and gave it 1 swing and found this 1712 2 reale in awesome shape. 51 was still getting all buckled up with his gear and figured what an awesome start! We hunted a little over an hour and this is what I found. Also think I found part of a sword holder. ....HH.... 401K Is the coin Spanish? update.. arcelona, Spain, milled 2 reales, Charles III Pretender, 1712. CT-21. 4.5 grams. Nicely toned Fine, somewhat off-center as usual, popular type reportedly struck under the supervision of Sir Isaac Newton.

THANKS EVERYONE!! Kinda a strange coin? Been researching it and came up empty! Got this coin book and cannot find it. Looked online and found CAROLUS III in the later 1700 early 1800s. Found CAROLUS II in the late 1600s. Philip V took rule of Spain in the year 1700 and before that it was CAROLUS II. Maybe someone forgot to tell the maker of this coin that there were no successors named Carolus after Carolus II. If anyone has any info on this coin please post the links. Thanks Again! ....HH.... Scott

One swing and what a great find. You know the day is going good when you have a coin like that in your pouch and your partner is still buckling up lol. Congrats on all those keepers.

It is a Spanish coin. I found several examples of it online, including one just like it on eBay:

Scott, I remember when Merc had a large cent in his pocket BEFORE I got out of the car. He was messing around by the guard rail of the parking lot and pulled a copper.
Congrats! In two weeks I'm free for the summer.

Thanks Drew! We'll have to get together and make lots of holes. Ben is so busy even on the weekends. We want to find a rev war mustering site that had 1000s of french troops, but may take time to cover a few square miles of woods, are you interested? Top secret spot. Give me a call. Scott

gorgeous coin Scott! the tip may be from a parasol or a scabbard tip.I dug one almost identical to that.but a sword hanger she is not

1712 Pistareen! Not sure of the mint though. Sweet!

THANKS EVERYONE! I'm liking this thing. I think it's a 1700s scabbard tip; chape ( drag ) from the colonial military. That would be sweet! ....HH.... 401K

great Pistareen 401K , one of the better ones i've seen in a while :smitten: :smitten: , the decorative tip could also be the top to a woman's parasol.

Not sure Dan?? Although the thing is made of pewter which I think might make it more colonial?

definately colonial ...pewter was a staple to have then ( plates , utensils , cups , buttons )

I also think that the woman's parasol fashion was more towards the early 1800 ( 1830s ) and on to around the 1920s, and this piece being around 1750s or earlier. Just thinking that being pewter and the age of it that the odds of it being a chape are better?

Went over to my hunting friends house this afternoon tried to go out for a hunt but got rained on and didnt find much. the only thing that I found was a 1700s key hole but left it in his truck. Anyways, asked him to get his CARLOS monogram 2 reales coin, we didn't know about the pretender coin in the past and it was kinda real neat to see that he had found the 1714 pretender about 15 years ago and I still remember him digging it up. What's the odds of both of us finding a pretender!!!! ....HH.... 401K
