1723 Hiberbia, 1920 Merc

I was finally able to get out this morning and darned if I didn't get that Hibernia signal on the absolute first swing! If only it was near a cellar hole where I would have had thoughts of the site never being detected. But it was 20 yrds from where I parked, a good quarter mile from the hole. So was just dumb luck.
I turned the machine on, ground balanced, and bang! I once dug a play money nickel after a few swings. Thanks! (I guess I can't edit the typo in the title)

sweet coin Drew bet you needed the detecting time after the first few days back at work huh. ;)

Nice coin, Drew. Any chance of some more "dumb luck" near your truck?!
Are you back teaching yet?
We start tomorrow. Summer's over

That's a two ring bullet too? Nice finds, drew. The largie has some fair details. Wow on the date of the merc. Most seem to be in the 40's. The last thread I thought I saw u start was on vaca up north. Unless I miss a lot only checking most recent posts. Crazy luck where u got it. What made u ground balance at the car? I don't turn mine on until I get close. Or until I see an area to check.

Great finds and awesome on the dumb luck. I had a similar, but not nearly as great an experience as yours last year. Got out of the car, turned the machine on and bam...solid signal within 10 seconds. Said what the heck, probably modern trash but I'll dig it...then out popped an 1889 IH. Really? Got really excited about the site but the rest of the day at the actual site (200 yds away) just two wheaties and a couple of buckles. Goes to show that sometimes you just get lucky Great finds.

Nice digs Drew! Love the Hibernia (still looking for one). You should have quit after that find. You would have been in the record books for most efficient hunt ever.

Thanks everyone, Yeah Ray, I went back last week, today was unbearable in the classrms up here. I hope your year got off to a nice start. Jim, I turned it on just as I got in the woods because there was a nice wall with open swinging space leading back to the site. Funny it all happened so fast, I GBed, picked it up to pull the cord up the stem, then put it back to the ground and heard what I thought was my shoe. Once I saw it was in the ground I thought it was modern trash at an inch, just like John, but the meter said deep so i knew i was in business.
I had many vacations this summer but none to NH, I was up in NY state though.

Hmm. I still remember how some of the better finds I got happened. U got too many to distinguish? However I looked at your thread, you were in Concord. I knew there was a concord, NH. Guess it was Mass. Sorry, there are a lot of threads and there are an immense amount of details to remember. still a congrats tho
